LGBTQ rights are under attack right here in Massachusetts.

Conversion therapy is the pseudoscientific practice of trying to change an individual's sexual orientation using psychological, spiritual and sometimes abusive interventions. There is virtually no reliable evidence that sexual orientation can be changed and medical bodies warn that conversion therapy practices are ineffective and seriously harmful.

We know that conversion therapy occurs in Massachusetts. Multiple youth-serving mental health care providers, health care providers, advocates and teachers hear heartbreaking stories from young people that they are being pushed into conversion therapy by their parents after finding the courage to come out to them.

Please reach out to your legislators by filling out the information below and ask them to support H.4664 An Act relative to abusive practices to change sexual orientation and gender identity in minors, otherwise known as the Conversion Therapy Ban Bill.  This bill will ensure that state licensed mental health practitioners abide by professional standards of ethics and do not engage in damaging practices that have no scientific basis.  Similar legislation has already become law in 11 other states.

Massachusetts is falling behind in protecting our youth.  Take action today to let the LGBTQ community know that Massachusetts defends their rights, supports their equal freedoms, and will stand up to protect LGBTQ youth.

LGBTQ rights are under attack right here in Massachusetts.

Dear [Decision Maker],

As your constituent, I write to ask you to help protect LGBTQ youth in Massachusetts by supporting An Act relative to abusive practices to change sexual orientation and gender identity in minors, H.4664, otherwise known as the Conversion Therapy Ban Bill.

This bill prohibits state licensed mental health professionals from subjecting individuals below the age of 18 to conversion therapy practices to change sexual orientation and/or gender identity. Frequently used conversion therapy practices can have serious, long-lasting damage such as depression, anxiety, and suicide. Ultimately, this bill will ensure that state licensed mental health practitioners abide by professional standards of ethics and do not engage in damaging practices that have no scientific basis.

In contrast to opponents' arguments, this legislation does NOT:

1. limit the practices of religious or faith-based counselors
2. prohibit the legitimate practices of professionally accepted therapies
3. prohibit the therapeutic exploration of sexual orientation or gender identity
4. apply to adults
5. infringe on First Amendment liberties as demonstrated by rulings in both federal and state courts.

We know that conversion therapy occurs in Massachusetts. Multiple youth serving mental health care providers, health care providers, advocates and teachers hear heartbreaking stories from young people that they are being pushed into conversion therapy by their parents after finding the courage to come out to them.

H.4664 has the support of a broad coalition of medical, mental health, child welfare, youth serving groups, legal and LGBTQ organizations in Massachusetts. Similar legislation has already become law in 11 other states. Massachusetts is falling behind in protecting our youth.

Please protect LGBTQ minors in Massachusetts from the harmful, fraudulent practice of conversion therapy by advocating for H.4664 to be brought to the floor unamended for a vote in this session.

Sincerely,
