Urge Your Senators to Sustain Pressure on Iran

SEND A MESSAGE TO YOUR U.S. SENATORS

The Nuclear Weapon Free Iran Act of 2013 was introduced by Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Senator Mark Kirk (R-IL) to sustain pressure on Iran to end its nuclear weapons program. By proposing additional sanctions that would kick in after a year, the bill gives the U.S. and its P5+1 partners time to pursue negotiations and, at the same time, makes clear to Iran the severe economic price it will pay if it does not negotiate seriously and plays for time. The sanctions effort led by the U.S. was vital in pressing Iran to come to the negotiating table. Ask your Senators to help diplomacy succeed by keeping pressure on Iran to pursue an agreement that will end its nuclear weapons drive.

Strengthen the U.S. hand in negotiations by keeping pressure on Iran

Dear [Decision Maker],

I am writing to urge you to support Nuclear Weapon Free Iran Act of 2013. This bipartisan legislation strengthens existing sanctions and puts forward future sanctions that would be triggered should Iran violate the interim Joint Plan of Action agreed to in Geneva or should the talks fail to reach a final agreement.

Congress has led the fight to halt Tehran's nuclear weapons quest through political, economic, and diplomatic means. But more needs to be done to press Iran to choose once and for all to cease its uranium enrichment and its drive for a nuclear weapons capability during this window of diplomatic opportunity.

In addition to being the world's chief sponsor of terrorism, Iran's leaders promote anti-Semitism and deprive Iran's people of fundamental freedoms. Now is the time to sustain the utmost pressure on a regime that poses a threat to America and our closest allies in the Middle East and offer a greater chance of achieving success through diplomacy.

Your support for this bill will send an important message to the Iranian regime that there will be harsh consequences if they do not remain committed to serious and constructive negotiations regarding its nuclear program.

Sincerely,
