Welcome to My Personal Page
I’m so excited to be participating in the Lupus Research Alliance San Diego Walk with Us to Cure Lupus on Saturday, December 1st! Each year, the Lupus Research Alliance coordinates this powerful fundraising program where friends, family and colleagues come together in cities across the country for a 5K walkathon to raise awareness and funds for lupus research.
Lupus is a painful autoimmune disease that affects millions worldwide. This disease is more common than leukemia, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and cystic fibrosis. Lupus can cause a plethora of ailments including kidney failure, central nervous system complications, blood clots, miscarriages, lung failure, heart disease, high blood pressure, vascular problems, and even premature death. Unfortunately, lupus presents many complexities and barriers that have prevented scientists from finding a cure. Because no two cases are the same and its symptoms mimic those of other diseases, the exact cause of lupus is unknown and it is very difficult to diagnose.
But, there is hope. As the largest private sector organization dedicated to advancing lupus research, the Lupus Research Alliance leads the quest to free the world of this autoimmune disease through the power of scientific research. The Lupus Research Alliance has committed $200 million to research, making it the largest private funder of lupus research in the world.
On a more personal note: I am convinced that my mother suffered from this very same disease but was never properly diagnosed or treated. My symptoms are very similar to those from which my mother suffered for most of her senior adult life. When I look back on her life and remember the many times she’d complain of her aches, pains, and many medical problems, I see myself mirrored in her experiences. I believe Lupus may be part of our genetic heritage. Very little is understood about this mysterious disease. I am hopeful that a cure for Lupus awaits us in the near future. In the meantime, I remain hopeful that as we progress towards a cure, a greater understanding of the ambiguousness of this disease, it’s causes and genetic connection, and better treatment options will be discovered. I am walking in memory of my mother. I am walking because I have Lupus. I will continue to walk for my children and our future generations hoping that Lupus is not part of their personal journey. I walk with hope for a cure that will conquer this disease.
I’m proud to be an active part of this amazing movement to find a cure through the Lupus Research Alliance Walk with Us program! Will you join me and the thousands of others nationwide who are supporting this movement?
I’d love to have you walk beside me, but if you’re unable to attend the Walk on Saturday, December 1st, you can still have an impact by helping me reach my fundraising goal. Simply click Donate Now or “Make a Gift!” below to make a charitable contribution to my fundraising page.
