Happy new year!
It’s been a little bit (over a year) since I’ve reached out to update you on what I’m doing in my efforts in the Lupus community! I wanted to share the exciting news! As you know I’m very passionate about raising awareness and funds for research for a cure and better patient care. As my life has changed in the last couple of years I am now focused and committed to doing more in the lupus community! I’m excited to share that in addition to my local work in Los Angeles, I’m expanding my wings and partnering with a national organization.
As you may know, I was diagnosed with lupus in 2009. It has been a tough journey, but I am determined to not let lupus define me. On my bad days, I’m very tired and I’m not sure if I will be able to get out of bed. On good days, I feel like I can move mountains. What has been very clear to me is that there is no cure or even new treatments, and I want to do everything I can to help. The Lupus Research Alliance is doing everything possible to find better treatments and eventually eradicate lupus.
On March 19 & 20th, I’ve been invited by the Lupus Research Alliance to Advocacy Day on the Hill in Washington, D.C. I will get the incredible opportunity to join lupus advocates across the country and speak to my local representatives on issues that affect lupus patients like me. Then on Saturday, April 14th at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Team Fogel will be out in full force at the Walk to Cure Lupus. I have set a personal goal to raise $10K for lupus research, and this is where I am asking for your help. Please consider supporting my efforts by donating to my team.
The Lupus Research Alliance unites the global lupus community in bold determination to free the world of lupus through the power of science. As of 2017, the Lupus Research Alliance has funded $173 million in support of novel lupus research, leading to key discoveries that are improving diagnosis and treatment, while helping researchers find the mechanisms to prevent and cure the disease. Because the Board of Directors funds all Lupus Research Alliance administrative and fundraising costs, 100% of all other donations go directly to support research programs.
Proudly, the Lupus Research Alliance funds many academic research institutions in Southern California such as UCLA, USC, Cedar Sinai and UC-San Diego. Because the Board of Directors covers all administrative and operating costs of the Lupus Research Alliance, 100% of all donations go directly to support innovative research programs.
Thank you in advance for your generosity. With your help, we will make a powerful impact on those like myself affected by lupus.
