HSS Dept. of Social Work Programs- La Lucha
Hospital for Special Surgery's Department of Social Work Programs – LA LuCha is proud to be participating in the New York City Walk with Us to Cure Lupus!
With more lupus support and education programs than any other hospital in the country,HSS is a leader in providing the highest quality of psychosocial support and education to patients and families impacted by lupus.
Lupus is a devastating autoimmune disease that affects an estimated 1.5 million Americans, making the disease more common than leukemia, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and cystic fibrosis. The exact cause of lupus is unknown and there is no known cure.
HSS’ Department of Social Work Programs has four national/international lupus programs, which include: The SLE Workshop, LupusLine®, Charla de Lupus/Lupus Chat® and Lupus Asian Network (LANtern)®. The mission of our programs is to empower and enhance the quality of life for people with lupus and their loved ones through culturally relevant support and education. These programs and its participants have participated in the LRA Walk for over ten years to help raise awareness and funds for lupus research.
For years, the Lupus Research Alliance has been a strong partner in our research to develop new treatments and ultimately a cure for this devastating chronic illness. Since its inception the Walk with Us to Cure Lupus program has raised over $25 million with 100% of the money raised going directly to support lupus research. HSS has been able to conduct critical research due to generous support provided by the LRA – in fact we have received more than $5 million in research grants to date.
HSS is dedicated to helping raise funds for lupus research and our overall goal as an organization is to raise $50,000 or more.
Our Department of Social Work Programs – LA LuCha team goal is to raise $2,500 and recruit 75 walkers to walk with our team on October 13th 2018.
We would like to invite all of our department’s staff, program participants, families and friends to walk with us on Saturday, October 13th.
If you can’t make it to the Walk on October 13th, you can still be a part of the movement. To support our team’s fundraising efforts click on the link below to make a donation. Remember, 100% of your donation will go to support lupus research and efforts for finding a cure.
