The Special Infectious Disease Clinic at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, formerly Children's Memorial Hospital, was established in 1987 under the direction of Drs. Ram Yogev and Ellen Chadwick. Currently the program cares for over 300 HIV infected/affected children and adolescents. The SID program is staffed by a multidisciplinary team that includes Infectious Disease physicans, nurses, neurodevelopmental specialists, nutritionists, laboratory services, phlebotemists, social workers, child life therapists, and research personnel. The Junior Council has been a vital partner to the Special Infectious Diseases clinic for the past 30 years. Their fundraising efforts have greatly contributed to the care provided and the success of the program. The Junior Council is partnering with SID again for the 2019 AIDS Run/Walk.
For this year's AIDS Run/Walk Team Lurie SID/Junior Council has registered as a Community Direct Partner. This means that 90% of the money we raise will be returned directly to SID. With these funds we can continue to assist our families with needs such as:
- Purchasing HIV medications when our patients are without insurance and are awaiting enrollment into government funded programs
- Obtaining laboratory tests on uninsured patients
- Assisting patients and families with emergency needs
The remaining 10% of funds raised will be retained by Aids Foundation of Chicago to cover costs associated with donation processing, administration, and event production.
Please join us in raising money to help support our program and the families we serve!
