I RUN PROUD with T2.

I'm running the Berlin Marathon on September 27, 2020, to save lives and put an end to new HIV infections in Illinois. I'm running with TEAM TO END AIDS (T2), a team that's training me to cross the finish line while I raise funds for the AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC). T2 helped me achieve my goals with my first marathon and make some incredible new forever running friends. As I continue my journey as a marathoner, I'm continuing with T2!

The year I was born, 1987, my uncle John received the news that he was HIV positive. At the time, the epidemic was so new there was very little that could be done. When I was 12, things took a very quick turn for the worse. John was told he had a short time left to live before complications from the disease would become insurmountable. He did as much living in those last few months as possible; trying to squeeze years into days. But all too soon, he was in and out of the hospital fighting for his life at a time when there were no solutions. In January 2000, we lost John at the much too young age of 46. I am running and raising money for the AIDS Foundation of Chicago in order to help make sure that we keep fighting until there's a cure, and no more lives are lost or forever altered by HIV/AIDS.

Almost 20 years later, HIV/AIDS doesn't make headlines as often, but that doesn't mean it's been cured or that it doesn't still change people's lives every single day. In 2015, 921 Chicagoans got the news that they are living with this incurable disease: a record low since the start of the AIDS epidemic in the 80s, but still, far too many than should get that news. AFC is depending on me (and you) to support people living with and affected by HIV. They're making sure that people living with the virus have equitable access to housing, health care, case management and other supportive services. I care deeply about AFC's work, and that's why I'm running 26.2 miles in October!

Help me cross the finish line, and help thousands of people across Illinois live better lives. More than anything, help the AIDS Foundation of Chicago with their Get to Zero initiative, so that there are no new HIV transmissions and no untreated HIV cases by 2020!Donate to my T2 campaign today.
