Act Now to Secure Record Level of Funding for Protecting Farmland in New York

We have an important opportunity to secure record state funding to protect farmland in New York. But, we need your help in reaching out to state leaders to get these dollars in the final state budget that will soon be adopted.

Tragically, over half a million acres of farmland have been paved over in New York since the early 1980s. To make matters worse, severe budget cuts to the state’s Farmland Protection Program during the recession slowed efforts to protect farmland.

But, we never gave up. With your help, we continued to send the message that we can’t take our farms for granted and that the State of New York must take action.

This week both houses of the New York State Legislature joined Governor Cuomo in proposing a record $64 million dollars be spent on farmland conservation and agricultural economic development.

Act Now to Secure Record Level of Funding for Protecting Farmland in New York

Dear [Decision Maker],

Thank you for proposing a record $64 million in funding for protecting farmland and growing New York's farm economy in the FY 2015-2016 New York State Budget. We urge you to include this proposed funding in the final budget and protect our irreplaceable farmland for future generations.

Access to fresh, locally grown food is critical to the health and well-being of all New Yorkers. The loss of farmland threatens our food security as well as the growth of our state's farm and food economy.

This record level of funding for protecting working farms will make New York a national leader in conserving these irreplaceable resources for generations to come.
