What do I need to bring with me to the Walk?
Can I still collect my prizes if I’m unable to attend Early Check-In or the Walk for Animals?
Absolutely! Walkers unable to attend Early Check-In or the Walk for Animals may turn in their funds at our Golden Valley adoption center Monday, May 8 until Friday, May 12, 8 a.m. — 4 p.m. to collect their prizes. For Walkers turning in their funds after 4 p.m., you are still able to turn in your funds until the adoption center closes at 8 p.m. and a Philanthropy staff member will contact you about getting your prizes to you. Please note that we cannot guarantee all prizes or sizes will still be available after the Walk for Animals.
Do I need to bring a pet?
Everyone is welcome at the Walk for Animals! Plenty of attendees do not own pets or have pets that prefer to stay home.
How long is the Walk route? Do I need to walk the entire distance?
The Walk is approximately 2.5 miles and begins at our Golden Valley shelter, looping through Theodore Wirth Park. You may turn around at any time.
I’m thinking about bringing my horse/donkey/other large animal. What do I need to know?
Your large animal is welcome at the Walk. However, you need to be licensed and have a hoofed animal permit with Minneapolis. You are also responsible for cleaning up after your large animal. It may be difficult to park your trailer, so arrive by 7 a.m. to find a parking space near the shelter.
What vaccinations does my pet need to attend the Walk?
While we don't require you to bring proof of vaccinations, we do request your pet be current with the following.
Can I drop my child off to attend the Walk?
All children must be under direct adult supervision at all times at the Walk.
What happens if it rains?
Rain or shine, we'll have a great time! Check the weather before you arrive, and dress accordingly.
Can I leave my valuables and Walk incentive prizes inside the shelter until after the Walk?
No. Animal Humane Society is not responsible for your personal items and asks that you carry them with you at all times or lock them in the trunk of your car for safekeeping. Please consider participating in early check-in on Thursday, May 4, to receive your prizes before Walk day.
