Walk Day FAQ

Can I check in before Walk day?

Yes! Early check-in occurs from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, at the following locations:

What do I need to bring with me to check–in?

Bring all offline donations along with a completed Donation Tracker form. We'll review your total (including online donations) at the check-in table.

What do I need to bring with me to the Walk?

  • Cash and check donations along with a completed Donation Tracker form

  • Any matching gift forms

  • Cash for food and merchandise purchases (not all vendors take credit cards). There will be an ATM at the event.

Can I still collect my prizes if I’m unable to attend Early Check-In or the Walk for Animals?

Absolutely! Walkers unable to attend Early Check-In or the Walk for Animals may turn in their funds at our Golden Valley adoption center Monday, May 8 until Friday, May 12, 8 a.m. — 4 p.m. to collect their prizes. For Walkers turning in their funds after 4 p.m., you are still able to turn in your funds until the adoption center closes at 8 p.m. and a Philanthropy staff member will contact you about getting your prizes to you. Please note that we cannot guarantee all prizes or sizes will still be available after the Walk for Animals.

Do I need to bring a pet?

Everyone is welcome at the Walk for Animals! Plenty of attendees do not own pets or have pets that prefer to stay home.

How long is the Walk route? Do I need to walk the entire distance?

The Walk is approximately 2.5 miles and begins at our Golden Valley shelter, looping through Theodore Wirth Park. You may turn around at any time.

I’m thinking about bringing my horse/donkey/other large animal. What do I need to know?

Your large animal is welcome at the Walk. However, you need to be licensed and have a hoofed animal permit with Minneapolis. You are also responsible for cleaning up after your large animal. It may be difficult to park your trailer, so arrive by 7 a.m. to find a parking space near the shelter.

What vaccinations does my pet need to attend the Walk?

While we don't require you to bring proof of vaccinations, we do request your pet be current with the following.

  • Dogs: Distemper/Parvo combo, Bordetella, and Rabies

  • Cats: PRC and Rabies

  • Ferrets: Distemper and Rabies

  • Horses: Updated on all standard vaccines

Can I drop my child off to attend the Walk?

All children must be under direct adult supervision at all times at the Walk.

What happens if it rains?

Rain or shine, we'll have a great time! Check the weather before you arrive, and dress accordingly.

Can I leave my valuables and Walk incentive prizes inside the shelter until after the Walk?

No. Animal Humane Society is not responsible for your personal items and asks that you carry them with you at all times or lock them in the trunk of your car for safekeeping. Please consider participating in early check-in on Thursday, May 4, to receive your prizes before Walk day.

How do I get to the Walk?

Are food and beverages available at the Walk?

The Walk features a variety of food options available for purchase. Free water is provided for people and pets.

Along the Walk route, there will be free water stops and complimentary snacks.

WAIVER AND RELEASE
I give Animal Humane Society permission to use my name and photos taken of me during the event in any promotional material, publication, or on the website. I understand that participating in the event can be a hazardous activity. I also understand that I am participating at my own sole risk. I agree that Animal Humane Society, its agents, employees, sponsors, cooperating organizations, and all parties connected to this event, shall not be liable for any claims, demands, injuries, damages, actions, or causes of action, arising out of acts of active or passive negligence. I, and anyone entitled to act on my behalf, expressly release and discharge all such claims and liabilities, even though that liability may arise out of my own negligence or carelessness. I certify that I have read and understand the intent of this waiver and release.
