The Walk for Animals kicks off at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 6, at Animal Humane Society’s Golden Valley location.
Early check-in and prize pick-up
This year, we’re providing an early check-in option at two locations! Early check-in occurs from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, at the following locations:
AHS Golden Valley
Please bring all your cash and check donations, along with a completed donation tracking form. Don’t forget your matching gift forms!
Participants who attend early check-in at either location will be entered for a chance to win one of two Summit cooler and dog gift packs! Participants attending early check-in at the Summit Brewery will also receive a free pint of beer or root beer to enjoy while checking in for the Walk. Summit’s patio is dog-friendly, so feel free to bring your four-legged friend along!
Walk route and location
The Walk for Animals kicks off at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 6, at Animal Humane Society’s Golden Valley location. Walkers will wind their way through beautiful Theodore Wirth Park, turn around at the Golf Chalet, and head back to Animal Humane Society. The Walk is approximately 2.5 miles total, but you can turn around at any time.
For the safety of your dog and others, we highly recommend not using a retractable leash, but rather a 4’ or 6’ flat leash.

Food and beverages
The Walk features a variety of food options available for purchase, including:
Free water is provided for people and pets. Along the Walk route, there will be free water stops and complimentary snacks.
7:45 a.m. ‒ 2 p.m., Complimentary shuttle service
The first shuttle service will be leaving the satellite lots at 7:45 a.m. They will continue looping from the parking lots to the main event grounds until 2 p.m.
8 a.m., Walk for Animals grounds open
Check-in and prize pick-up
Check in and pick up your prizes any time between 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Fundraising prize pick-up will be located in a separate area near check-in.
Walk Stars, participants who raise $1,000 or more, will check in at the front of the building (through Administration Entrance) and collect their prizes in the Walk Star check-in area.
Vendors and activities
Spend time visiting our vendors and participating in fun animal-related activities! Bring cash. There will be no ATM access on the event grounds.
9 a.m., Summit Brewing Company Beer Truck
Enjoy a refreshing beverage at the Summit Brewing Company beer truck (located near the mainstage). Must be 21 years old to enjoy — I.D. required. Cash and credit cards accepted.
9:30 a.m., Walk Rally
Join us in the cul-de-sac near the Information Tent to countdown to the start of the Walk for Animals with AHS President and CEO Janelle Dixon and WCCO on-air personalities.
10 a.m., Walk Kick-off
The Walk starts at the corner of Dahlberg Drive and Meadow Lane. Don’t be late!
Please remember to be courteous to other people enjoying Theodore Wirth Park. Please use the road (not the path) — it will be closed for our use!
The route follows Theodore Wirth Parkway, turns around at the Golf Chalet, and heads back to Animal Humane Society. The Walk is approximately 2.5 miles total. You’re welcome to turn around at any time along the route.
10–11:30 a.m., 12:30–1:30 p.m., Live music by the Brass Messengers
They’re back! Enjoy live music on the mainstage by the Brass Messengers, a local brass ensemble that plays everything from original music with global inspirations and country, to polka and more. Perfect for all ages.
11:30 a.m., Party City Pet Contests
Hang out at the mainstage with KDWB personalities Falen and Steve to watch the pet contests unfold. Sign up your pet for the Pet Contests at the Information Tent by 11 a.m. to participate. Limited space is available. Your pet has a chance to take part in the following contests:
12:30 p.m., Check-in and prize pick-up close
Make sure to pick up your prizes at the designated locations no later than 12:30 p.m.!
1:30 p.m., Walk for Animals grounds close
All activities, Flealess Market vendors, food vendors, and mainstage close.
2 p.m., Complimentary shuttle service ends
