The online volunteer registration will open on March 10.

Volunteers make the Walk for Animals possible! Thank you for considering volunteering at this year’s event. As a volunteer you will be part of the action, get to meet adorable animals, and be an integral part in supporting Animal Humane Society’s mission to engage the hearts, hands, and minds of the community to help animals.

All Walk for Animals volunteers also receive a free t-shirt when they check-in for their role that day.

Age Requirements:

Volunteers for The Walk must be 16 years of age or older.

Volunteer Roles:

You will be able to choose your top three role choices on the registration form. Please note that we do our best to assign you to a preferred role, but cannot guarantee that everyone will get one of their top choices.

Walker Check-In: 7:30 a.m. — 1:00 p.m.
Check-in volunteers will review each walker’s registration and distribute premiums accordingly. This role involves use of laptops and searching an online database, comfortability with computers is a plus. This position requires standing or sitting for some length of time depending on specific tasks. This is a fast-paced environment that takes place indoors.

Volunteer Check-In: 6:00 a.m. — 1:00 p.m.
This role helps welcome Walk volunteers, check them in for their assignment, get their materials, direct them where they should go, and answer questions. This position requires standing or sitting for some length of time depending on specific tasks.

Vendor and Sponsor Check-in: 6:00 a.m. — 11:00 a.m.
Help welcome vendors and sponsors to the event and answer questions, assist in locating employees as necessary, show them where to go on a map, etc.

Activities and Booths: 7:30 a.m. — 1:00 p.m.
If you’re an outgoing, social butterfly this may be the role for you! This role assists at some of the great activities and information booths stationed around the grounds for people and their pets, such as dog games, face painting, and fun photo stations. This volunteer position is outdoors and requires standing for most of the shift.

Walk Wear Sales: 7:30 a.m. — 1:30 p.m.
Volunteers in this role help sell previous year’s Walk wear to event participants.

Crowd Control (must be 18 years or older): 6:15 a.m. — 1:00 p.m.
This role is all about safety. Crowd Control volunteers assist both pedestrian and vehicle traffic throughout the day. With 9-10,000 people and their animals attending, things can get hectic.

Poop Bag Patrol: 8:00 a.m. — 10:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. — 1:00 p.m.
This is a great role if you want to explore the event! Poop Bag Patrol volunteers walk around the event grounds handing out poop bags to participants in need. You are not responsible for picking up after the pups, just offering the resources to make sure it happens. We welcome creativity too we’ve seen some great ‘get your poop bags here’ signs over the years.

The Green Team: 8:00 a.m. — 1:00 p.m.
Help us get to our goal of being a zero-waste event! Volunteers in this position are stationed at designated recycle stations to help educate Walkers about how to sort their waste into the proper containers (recycle, compost, trash).

Donation Processing: 7:30 a.m. — 2:00 p.m.
Volunteers in this role open, sort and process registration packets, use electronic scanners to deposit checks, and do data entry. This is an indoor, sit down role.

Walker Hospitality: 7:30 a.m. — 1:00 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. — 1:00 p.m.
Great for outgoing social butterflies who like a lot of hustle and bustle! Walker Hospitality volunteers help in the Walker Welcome tent or in the Top Walker Lounge to greet walkers, answer questions and direct people where to go, or help keep refreshments stocked, welcome Top Walkers, and act as a general host in the lounge area.

Shuttle Bus Greeter: 6:30 a.m. — 10:00 a.m.
Act as “tour guide” for Walkers on the bus by telling them about the Walk activities, where to check in, etc. and getting them energized about the day!

Flex Volunteer: 7:00 a.m. — 1:00 p.m.
Flex volunteers will fill in as necessary depending on last minute schedule changes, volunteer no-shows, or event needs. Some Flex Volunteers will receive a designated position shortly before the event, but some Flex Volunteers may not receive a position until check-in at the event.

We are able to accommodate some small groups to volunteer. Each group member does need to register individually and put the name of their fellow group members, group lead or group name in the notes section on the registration form. Groups must have all members registered by Friday, April 7th in order to be considered for placement in a role as a group. We do our best to keep groups together, however, there are only a few roles that can accommodate groups larger than 3-4 people so group spots fill up very quickly and will likely be full before April 7th. It’s best to get your group registered as soon as possible.
