America's National Security: At Risk From Budget Cuts

your support defense image

Severe budget cuts are harming our nation’s security and putting members of the military at greater risk if deployed into harm’s way. Our men and women in uniform and their families sacrifice for our security, we owe it to them to have the best training and equipment this country can offer so they can return home safely. Current and former defense leaders are sounding the warning bells, and our nation’s leaders need to listen. The military will not be able to execute our national defense strategy with the indiscriminate budget cuts imposed by the Congress. The world is growing increasingly dangerous this is not the time to hollow out the military and the industrial base that supports them.

Support our national security

Dear [Decision Maker],

Severe budget cuts are harming our nation's security and putting members of the military at greater risk if deployed into harm's way. Our men and women in uniform and their families sacrifice for our security, we owe it to them to have the best training and equipment this country can offer so they can return home safely. Current and former defense leaders are sounding the warning bells, and our nation's leaders need to listen. The military will not be able to execute our national defense strategy with the indiscriminate budget cuts imposed by the Congress. The world is growing increasingly dangerous this is not the time to hollow out the military and the industrial base that supports them.

Further budget cuts will significantly harm national security, the aerospace and defense industrial base, and the economy.

Facts About National Security Budget Cuts:

* The Budget Control Act that was passed in August 2011 set indiscriminate caps on the defense budget from 2012 through 2021 without regard to our national security needs or the threatening global environment.

* The Department of Defense reports that under future budget cuts, the Army and Marine Corps will be forced to shrink to pre-World War II levels, training will be sacrificed, and the part of the budget that provides our war fighters with the equipment they need to survive in modern day and future warfare will be slashed by more than $66 billion.

* Military leaders warn that under the budget law, U.S. forces "will assume substantial additional risks in certain missions and will continue to face significant readiness and modernization challenges. These impacts would leave our military unbalanced and eventually too small to meet the needs of our strategy fully."

* The Department of Defense is playing its part in bringing down the nation's deficit. If Congress increases the Budget Control Act caps to the levels the Department requires to meet our national security strategy, it will still have contributed $830 billion to reducing our country's debt.
