Kidney Action Week Continues!
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and our commitment to the health and safety of all participants, we moved the flagship event in our nationwide screening program—Kidney Action Day—online!
Since Kidney Action Week kicked off this past Monday, September 14, we've discussed our top kidney disease questions with a nephrologist, enjoyed cooking demonstrations of popular Kidney Kitchen™ recipes, briefed members of Congress about stark health disparities in the COVID-19 pandemic, and learned a lot about living a healthy life. There are still two exciting days left of Kidney Action Week and so much more to learn!

Recipe contributed by FamilyCook Productions
This recipe, featuring creative fall flavors, is a fresh spin on a Tex-Mex classic. Top with a dollop of Greek yogurt and caramelized shallots for extra flavor!
TIP: A dry cast iron skillet is best, but if you have a stainless or aluminum skillet, just put some olive oil on a paper towel and use it to wipe the bottom of the skillet very lightly to ensure the tortilla will not stick while you are heating it.

During the COVID-19 crisis, it is more crucial than ever that vulnerable people such as patients with organ transplants remain home and avoid as much contact with others as possible. Ensuring that transplant patients continue to have continued access to immunosuppressive drugs is critical to keeping them off dialysis. With millions of Americans now facing unemployment and possible loss of health insurance as a result, extending Medicare coverage of immunosuppressants is even more important.

For the past 17 years, Camp All Stars has been a place where kids with kidney disease can just be kids. The camp was started by Johns Hopkins Children's Center so that kids who are on dialysis or living with a kidney transplant can have—many for the first time—an overnight camp experience. For the past two years, AKF has been honored to be a small part of the Camp All Stars experience!
The COVID-19 pandemic changed our plans completely, but we were determined to provide our campers the opportunity to be around kids like them who know what it is like to be a kid with the same medical concerns. Thus, VirtualBINGO was born.
