Throughout this series we've shared with you the struggles that many chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients face on their journey from diagnosis through treatment. But there is hope for people like Tracey, Melissia and David because of the support you provide to the American Kidney Fund (AKF).

AKF walks beside the 30 million Americans living with kidney disease, providing them the support they need to truly live life to the fullest.

We hope this series on the kidney disease journey has helped you better understand why the work AKF does is so vital.

  • When someone is at risk for kidney disease, AKF is there with education and free health screenings.
  • When someone is newly diagnosed with CKD, AKF provides them with resources to learn how to slow the progression.
  • When someone needs dialysis or a transplant to stay alive, AKF ensures that their treatment is not disrupted because of financial hardship.

2 Become an advocate

30 million Americans live with chronic kidney disease. These people need others to stand with them to help ensure that they have access to care and the promise of better treatment options in the future.

AKF is a strong and independent voice to increase awareness of kidney disease and advocate for policies that improve access to health care and that strengthen quality of care for individuals with kidney disease. But we need people like you to stand with us.

3 Help educate people about kidney disease

Learning the risk factors and signs of kidney disease can help those at risk detect the disease or slow its progression.

AKF provides free educational resources and free kidney health screenings. We also support clinical research that focuses on improving the lives of kidney patients. In addition, we are building a network of Kidney Health Coaches who can reach out to their communities to empower those at risk for kidney disease to prevent it.
