Care Services

Our Chapter empowers people with ALS and their families by offering a wide variety of programs and services. Our services are often changing and expanding as we grow, so please check back often to make sure you are taking advantage of everything we have to offer.

Our Care Services Staff

Our staff of compasionate, experienced ALS professionals and Social Workers are available to help educate and support people living with ALS and their families.  Our staff is available Monday through Friday to answer any questions you may have. Support Groups

The ALS Association North Carolina Chapter holds support groups each month for persons with ALS, family and loved ones to provide support and to connect them with resources and individuals that can support them along their journeys. Click here to learn more about support groups.

Peer to Peer Support Program

We are moving our peer to peer program to a Facebook Platform. This will be through a private facebook group that you can join to connect with others who are affected by ALS and their familiies. This group is hidden and only members are able to access or see this group and you must join, if you are not a member already, our chapter Facebook page through this link: https://www.facebook.com/alsncchapter , then click on the "More" tab, choose "groups" and choose this group and "join". Chapter Administrator will approve request within 24-48 hours.

Chapter Grant

The grant program assists families in North Carolina with expenses that are not traditionally covered by insurance such as private insurance, Medicare, Medicaid and other assistance programs. It will cover, but is not limited to: Respite Care Assistance, travel costs to ALS clinics and research, home modifications, auto modifications, communication devices, environmental controls and generators for invasive or non-invasive breathing assistance. Recipients may apply for two grants per year in the amount of $750 each.

Equipment Loan Program

The Equipment Loan Program operated by the North Carolina Chapter houses loaner durable medical equipment in four locations throughout the state which include power wheelchairs, manual wheelchairs, transport wheelchairs, rollators, power hoyer lift and shower wheelchairs. Equipment is delivered and picked up free of charge. If and when the equipment is no longer needed, it can be returned to the Chapter for use by other person living with ALS.

In-Services

The Chapter care services staff is available for professional in-services to nursing facilities, home healthcare agencies, hospice and palliative care organizations. Our in-services utilize PowerPoint/video presentations and discussion.

All of the services for our ALS families are available due to the generosity of many groups and individuals. By donating to our Chapter, you help us to help those families.
