Hello, and thank you for visiting team Miles For Files. We are using this opportunity with the Ragnar Relay as a means to raise awareness for ALS, as well as raise funds to help eradicate the disease from existence. If you have never known the disease or anyone who has suffered from it, you are very lucky. If you do not know what ALS is (commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease) you can seek information found through this website on the cause and effects. Simply stated, ALS is a terminal disease in which all muscles slowly atrophy. At this time, there is no cure and treatment options are limited if not futile. It is an absolutely heart breaking diagnosis. Our team is running in honor of a very beloved man. In late September 2013 Dr. Jeff Files, a phenomenal dentist and community icon, was diagnosed with ALS. By the end of the year he was no longer able to practice and forced into early retirement. Our community has been devastated by the absence of our mentor, leader, and friend. Dr Files, 54, is not only a top of the line dentist, but also an outstanding husband and father to two amazing children ages 19 and 21. If you know this man, you know what strength, determination, and hard work is. We are running 200 miles in honor of Dr. Files. Lauren, his daughter, is running an 18 mile portion of this 2 day long race. We have set an aggressive goal of raising $25,000 in just 6 weeks time. We have successfully reach our goal, but Dr. Anthony McLaughlin (the amazing dentist who bought the practice from Dr. Files) has challenged us to reach $30,000 so that he may make a donation of $5,000.... Please help us reach our goal in playing a small part in ridding the world of this disease. It's a way to honor Dr. Files and show how much we care about what him and his family are going through, as hopefully someday no one will ever have to suffer from ALS again.
