Celebrating 70 Years with 70 Miles

To my dear family, friends and neighbors,

As many of you know, I lost my dear, sweet Jim 5 years ago to ALS and I wanted to do something more to help in the fight against ALS.  So, in celebration of my upcoming 70th birthday, I will be cycling 70 miles and hope to raise lots of money for ALS.  To entice everyone to donate, I will be matching all donations.

I'm asking YOU, and almost everyone I've ever known, to please support me in this once in a lifetime fundraiser and help me make a difference in the ALS fight.  That's all I want for my birthday.  Nothing else is on my wish list - just help me give the gift of hope one dollar at a time!

So many of you have been so generous in the past and I'm hopeful you can find just a few more dollars to help me as I complete this ride.

Jim always had a zest for life and I have done my best since his passing to continue to enjoy all the things he would have wanted to do.  While he was living with ALS, he always stayed positive and always had a smile on his face despite the fact there was no hope for any treatment or cure.  Just this month, the New England Journal of Medicine announced the results of AMX0035 phase 2 drug trials that actually showed the drug significantly slowed the progression of ALS.  During Jim's ALS journey, we often made pacts when he lost another function and would say 'if the disease stops here, we can easily live with this'.  We made many of these pacts and unfortunately for us, and all the others who have lived thru this disease, ALS does not stop.  Now there is hope that a new drug might work to slow the progression.  This is very exciting news!  I'm hopeful that funds raised thru my bike ride can help people all over the country living with this disease and also push closer and closer towards a treatment and a cure.

Your support means the world to me.  Thanks in advance for helping my fundraiser succeed and supporting The ALS Association and its programs.

Love,

Pam
