Thanks for checking out my page! Here's my story, and why I'm asking you to help the ALS Association fight this disease.

It started with what I thought was a pulled muscle, but 3 years and many doctor visits later, in August of 2017, the diagnosis we feared finally came - "you have ALS". In that moment our lives changed, and the uncertainty came. How much time did I have? Would I see my 11 and 13 year old boys grow up? How much longer would I be able to go up the stairs in our home?

There have been changes over the last few years. The muscle twitches and cramps are constant. I've watched the muscles on the left side of my body shrink away. Things that I used to take for granted now take concentrated effort, or I can't do them at all. I went from running regularly to walking with a trekking pole to keep my balance. It's getting harder to tie my shoes.  That's how ALS works, it slowly kills the muscles that allow you to move, talk, eat and even breathe. The disease is progressive, there is currently no cure, and very little in the way of treatment. Despite the changes, I'm staying positive and hopeful, and I am leaning heavily on God, and my friends and family to get me through this.

Ok, so now the good news. ALS affects everyone differently, so it is very difficult to predict how, and at what pace, the condition will worsen. For me, the progression of the disease has been slow. I have been blessed with more time. I'm still able to do most things, and I'm going to do as much as I can for as long as I can. Extra time is so important because more is learned about ALS every day, and several new treatments are being tested. I think we are close, and it's just a matter of time until a cure is found. However, this research requires funding, and that's where you can help.
