When we first started PathMaker Neurosystems, we sought to build a leading neurotechnology company that would bring to market breakthrough non-invasive devices for treating serious neurological diseases. As we unraveled the molecular mechanisms by which our technology worked, our successful research led us to ALS. We came to understand the specific pathologies associated with ALS and came to the realization that our unique, non-invasive approach could address both the motor neuron hyperexcitability found in ALS, as well as the neuronal accumulation of toxic protein aggregates that is found in ALS. Fast forward a few years, and we are now completing our first ALS clinical trial, which was supported by funding from MDA and CERF, and are now launching a second, larger ALS clinical trial (the CALM study), with funding from the U.S. Department of Defense.
Research into slowing ALS disease progression is critically important and needs even more robust support. This need has taken us at PathMaker Neurosystems beyond our research labs and clinical trials. And this is where you can help: I am participating in the ALS Association’s CEO Soak event this July 12 to help raise critical funds and awareness to help fight back against ALS. Inspired by the Ice Bucket Challenge, the CEO Soak engages corporate, business, and community leaders to GET SOAKED once again for ALS.
People with ALS can go from perfectly healthy to quickly being unable to move, swallow, or breathe. It can strike anyone at any time and there is no cure. The ALS Association is the only national non-profit organization fighting ALS on every front. Through your gift to the CEO Soak event, you will help the ALS Association to continue providing hope and help to those in our community living with ALS, and to their caregivers, while the ALS Association continues to aggressively search for successful treatments and a cure.
We are doing everything we can to help the ALS Association make ALS a livable disease, and we are asking for your help, too. Please donate to our fundraising page for CEO Soak, or better yet, register today to be a Soakee alongside me, and we will then proudly get soaked for ALS.
Thank you!

About ALS
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
ALS can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease, yet it still costs loved ones an average of $250,000 a year to provide the care people living with ALS and their families need. Every 90 minutes, someone is diagnosed with ALS, and every 90 minutes someone dies from it. These facts are why we all should help make a splash in the fight against ALS today.
