July 10th- YOU ALL DID IT!!! Our hearts are overflowing with GRATEFULLNESS! We are so blessed to have so many wonderful people in our lives. Thank-you for making this journey with us. Each day gets harder and harder but we are surrounded by so much love!!! Matt has a message for all of you: "Hey Guys, this is Matt. I was thinking back to last year's CEO Soak. At that time, I was having little problems with my speech and some left hand weakness. I was thinking how different it will be this year. Now, my speech is gone, I'm on a feeding tube for 100% of my nutrition, my left hand is almost unuseable, and my rght hand is at 20%. My left shoulder is separated due to all the muscle loss. But PRAISE GOD my legs are still good, they are getting skinny, but still working. I just wanted to give you all that update and say thank-you for your love and support again this year. Jenn and I are truly blessed that God put you in our lives!" For those who haven't donated yet and still want to, the answer is YES!!! Donations can be made until August 6th. Every single penny counts towards helping families struggling with ALS and finding the cure for this disgusting disease. Closer to the CURE and Much LOVE! Matt and Jenn
JUNE 29th Hello EVERYONE!! We are just about to hit the GOAL! And we'll probably go past the goal!We can't believe it! You ALL are such a blessing to Matt and me. God has been so good in allowing us to be connected with soooooooo many giving and gracious people. Sometimes Matt and I still can't believe that he has ALS. It really hurts and it's a struggle everyday. But knowing we can raise money for the CEO Soak and help others in our situation brings somes comfort and peace to our lives. And we could not do this without all your Love and Support. Thank-you from the deepest part of our hearts. Closer to the CURE........Much Love, Matt and Jenn
JUNE 19th- Hi Folks, friends, and family! Happy Monday and Happy BeLated Father's Day to all the Fathers. Matt had a great weekend! The kids were all here including our precious Holden who somehow makes us laugh so hard even when we're having a rough day. Anyway, 52 days left until the CEO Soak. Please let me know if you are coming to watch so I can have a t-shirt made for you. 52 days left, and since Matt upped the ante we have about 6,000 to go but we're confident we can beat last year's amount. Matt and I both have a competetive nature so you can be sure we are watching Oxford Development trying to sneak up on us!!!!! Kidding, we are all one great big team aren't we??? Well, maybe we can wait to be one great big team again until after the CEO Soak!LOLLOLLOLLOL Thank-you so much for all the LOVE! I know many of you already give to so many charities but if you feel led to give toward Matt's team for the CEO Soak, we are attempting to get 200 more people to give $20 All money goes toward the Western PA ALS ASSCOIATION to help other families in need and for much needed research. Thank-you again all who have given, your benevolence astounds us and warms our hearts with your love. Closer To The CURE!
Matt and Jenn
UPDATE Saturday, JUNE 10th- Dear Friends and Family! We are overwhelmed by your kindness and generosity. We met our goal and there are still 61 days left before the CEO Soak Event! We can't express in words how blessed we feel that so many people in our lives love and care about Matt so much. We are amazed how quickly you all came along side of us to reach this goal. We are truly in awe of the outpouring of love and support. Many are wondering and have asked since the goal is met can you still donate for this event and the short answer is YES, ABSOLUTELY! Although we won the battle of meeting our goal, there is still a much larger battle to be won.........We MUST FIND A CURE!!!!! All money donated for this event and to the ALS Association of Western PA will be used wisely. We have personally experienced so much care and support from the ALS Association, we don't know what we would do without them! In addition, the ALS Associations contribute huge amounts of money for research and they are determined to find the cure for this disgusting disease! Last year, Matt raised 28,000ofr this event and we would be happy to surpass that if there are still those of you who feel called to give. Again, MANY MANY MANY MANY THANKS to ALL OF YOU!!!!! Much. much, much LOVE, Matt and Jenn
UPDATE June 7, 2023 Thank-you so much for all that have donated. We are overwhelmed by your generosity, love, prayers and support. This is the one fundraising event Matt does for the ALS Chapter and we know how much our chapter really cares about all the families struggling with ALS. Every 90 minutes, someone dies from ALS. The ALS Chapters also raise money for much needed research to FIND THE CURE! We know personally, that all the money donated is helping so many families in great need. So Matt wants me to also add---On another note, all of you that know Matt personally, know that he is EXTREMELY competetive and he wants to keep the trophy....He is so strong and brave. He is going through so much physically, but wants to keep that trophy! We are so grateful for all your support and love! Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you!!!!! Matt and Jenn
Initial: To all of my supporters, friends, and family, I am once again participating in the Western PA ALS Chapter CEO Soak. So much has changed since last year's soak. Last year, I still felt like myself, the disease hadn't changed me much at that time. But over the last 9 months, so much has changed, in fact, everything has changed. I can no longer eat solid food, so I have a feeding tube. My speech is very garbled because I can no longer use my tongue to make word sounds so communication is extremely difficult. I use a cough assist machine to exercise my lungs and help me to breath better. My hands have weakned to the point I need Jenn's assistance in many ways throughout each day.
The reason I want to participate in the Soak again is because of all the support and care our local ALS Chapter has provided to Jenn and me personally over the last several months in ways we could have never imagined. They sent a Speech Therapist to our home to help us set up communication equipment and assist me with learning my new "eye gaze" device, they sent an Occupational Therapist to our home on more that one occasion. They provided transfer devices so Jenn can help me move from place to place when I can't walk anymore. Praise God I'm still able to walk short distances very slowly. They also provided me with a motorized, portable chair that Jenn can pack for me when we travel. Our local chapter also assigned us an absolutely amazing Social Worker who has been such a constant support system for Jenn during this journey.
Last year, our initial goal was to raise $5,000.00, however, because of the outpouring of love and support, Matt actually won the TOP Fundraiser Trophy for 2022 by raising 28,000.00. This year our goal is $20,000.00 but we are happy to surpass that goal and keep the trophy safetly at our house! ha ha.
The money raised from the CEO Soak will help to benefit over 350 local families by providing much needed love, support, and assistance with so many needs, just as they help us. In addition, the ALS Chapter raises and uses this money for research and development to FIND THE CURE! ALS robs people of the ability to eat, walk, talk, and eventually breathe. Matt and I pray daily for the cure and that his ALS will stop progressing! Thank-you all for your prayers and words of love and encouragement. Jenn and I don't feel like we're in this battle alone because we are lifted up and carried through this season of our lives by ALL OF YOU! Much Love, Matt and Jenn
