Why I Ride...
On Saturday September 24, 2022 I will be participating in The ALS Association Golden West Chapter's 18th annual Napa Valley Ride to Defeat ALS and Walk. I ride to support those affected by Lou Gehrig's Disease, specifically my lifelong friend Miles McConnell, and to spread awareness for the urgency to find treatments and a cure. This year the ride will be in person, in Napa, and we are really looking forward to an amazing event.
What is ALS?
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of it's ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe.
Why We Need Your Help
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
1. The average life expectancy of an ALS patient is two to five years from the time of diagnosis.
2. ALS can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease. Someone you know or love may die from ALS unless a cure is found.
3. Caring for a loved one with ALS costs on average of $200,000 each year.
What you can do to help
Join team (s)Miles to help raise funds for this year's event. All donations are tremendously apprecaited, especilly in these uncertain times. Many of you know my lifelong friend Miles McConnell. ALS is slowly taking away the strength of the strongest person I have ever known. Miles and I have hiked to the top of Mountains on the other side of the world, but this peak is massive and we really really need your help. Miles has been fighting as hard as possible to maintain his strength. Your donation not only helps in the research to defeat ALS. It helps Miles, others with ALS, and their familes fight and cope with all the things in life that most of us take for granted.
We are not giving up until this disease is conquered. I am asking you to please help here by donating whatever you can.
