Hi family and friends,
I will be running in the Wy'east Howl Half Marathon on July 17th, 2022 in memory of my dad. My dad was diagnosed with ALS in January, 2020. He died only 19 months later on July 16th, 2021. I am runnning to spread awareness of ALS and the urgency to find treatments and a cure.
Whenever I'm in nature, or doing an outdoor activity that requires a certain amout of physical suffering, I think about my dad. He loved "Type 2 fun"--somewhat miserable while it's happening, but fun in retrospect :) I'm sure many of you have participated in these types of adventures with him when you've wondered, "wait, why are we doing this?" He will definitely be on my mind while I run 13.1 miles up and down beautiful Mt Hood.
Please join me in making a donation to the ALS Foundation in memory of Tom Deacy. The ALS Association not only raises money to support research to find a treatment and cure, but also directly supports families dealing with ALS. Our family was able to access their loan closet to borrow equipment such as an eye gaze machine so my dad could communicate when he lost his speech. They also helped connect us with a former ALS family to buy their accessible van. I'd like to raise money for the ALS Association so they can continue advocating for a treatment and cure and supporting families dealing with this terrible disease.
I can't believe it's been almost one year since my dad died. Now that he's gone, it feels like he's everywhere--including with me while I run up Mount Hood in just two weeks!
