ALS can strike anyone. And it's a shock and very painful when it happens to someone you love. Last year, my dad, Scott Massengill, was diagnosed with ALS. "Team Scott" is running in his honor and we hope to raise both awareness about the disease and money to help fund research for drugs and therapies for those affected by ALS.
My knowledge about the condition didn’t extend much past the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, but I am now learning more about it. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurological disease that causes one’s muscles to slowly weaken, twitch, and deteriorate. Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. There is presently no known cause of the disease and there is currently no cure for it.
That’s why I’m participating in Team Challenge ALS and running in the Fool’s Day Half Marathon on April 3, 2022. I hope to help change the statistics, to support those affected by ALS, and to run 13.1 miles towards finding a cure.
Your donation will make a difference. And I will be touched personally by your generosity.
With love and appreciation,
Kayleigh
