In May 2023, my dad, Peter, was diagnosed with ALS just days before his 69th birthday. For someone who was a lifelong athlete and loved being active outdoors, this disease was especially heartbreaking. Despite his diagnosis, my dad continued to be as active as possible over the following months, often walking several miles every day. In October, my dad passed away surrounded by his family.
I'm participating in Ride to Defeat ALS to raise funds and awareness to help fight back against this terrible disease. The ALS Association provides much needed patient services resources, funds global, cutting edge research, and much more in order to help those living with ALS right in our community. My family relied on Compassionate Care ALS to provide us with the tools my dad needed to help support his lungs in his final months.
It seems only fitting that this fundraising event is a bike ride, as one of my dad's many passions was cycling. My dad loved riding his bike on the dirt roads of New Hampshire, backroads in Newton, and even in Chile on a bike tour. He and I enjoyed many father-daughter bike rides every summer, and I cannot think of a better way to both honor him and support ALS research.
My family and I are proud to be raising funds and awareness for a cause so dear to our hearts. We hope you will consider making a donation or joining our team, in memory of my dad.
