2024 ALS SuperHero 5K 10K Dash

Lola Warriors

As some of you may know, Alex’s mom (Marina) was recently diagnosed with ALS. This rare and devastating diagnosis affects approximately 5,600 patients and their families each year. As of today, there is no cure for ALS and the diagnosis is terminal.

Alex’s mom recently turned 60 years old. A 23 year old immigrant from the Philippines in 1986, Marina has spent her life dedicated to service, first as an ICU nurse in New Jersey and Chicago, and later as a private practice nurse. She raised two amazing boys as a young mom, while working overnight shifts at a hospital on the north side of Chicago and navigating a new country. She loves cooking (if you’ve ever stepped foot in their home, I bet she fed you!), gardening, walking, and most importantly, her family. She was looking forward to gardening, traveling, and spending time with her granddaughter in retirement.

In honor of Alex’s mom and to show our support for Alex, I’ve organized a team to run/walk the ALS Super Hero 5K/10K on May 18. This is an amazing opportunity to show your love for Alex AND raise money for ALS research and financial support for families living with ALS. I’d LOVE if you could join us at Harriet Island Regional Park (or virtually) on 5/18.
