2022 Ride to Defeat ALS - OR & SW Washington

For the 7th year in a row, the Drafters will Ride again!

We rode for the very first time in 2015, just a few months after Donnie was diagnosed with ALS. When the doctors told us he had 5-8 years to live I never imagined that bigger number. But here we are, most of the way through Donnie's 7th year since diagnosis, and 8 years since his first symptoms.

To be honest, without the excellent support from the ALS Association and his medical specialists, he would not be here. We are truly grateful to everyone who has been able to help us and support us in this crazy ALS life.

You can make a difference!

ALS is hard. Really hard. At times Donnie struggles with this disease as it continues to progress (ironic that it is a progressive disease). In the last year he stopped eating by mouth and has had more problems with swallowing. A string of small issues have plagued him since February. He keeps plugging away, looking for solutions and advice and coping strategies.

The ALS Association Oregon & SW Washington Chapter lifts us up with resources; advice, equipment loans, support groups, research symposiums, a Caregivers Bootcamp and a community of people who care and make all of ALS easier to bear. To us, the value of their support is beyond measure. Since mid-2020 much of the support has been virtual and by email, but they are definitely still there for us.

With your help, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease and their families.

Please consider joining the Drafters as a team member. It requires a commitment to your own personal fundraising efforts of raising $150 or more. You can ride at Mt. Angel or ride a route of your own choosing. If you don't want to ride you can donate any amount you choose to one of our team members. Our team members are listed on this page. Click on their names to read why this cause is so important to each of them.

Since 2017 we have been joined by two members of Rasjad Lint’s team, A Life Beyond Measure

This year we will have riders in Oregon, Washington, Ohio, and Mississippi!

We encourage you to share this page with your friends, family, neighbors and coworkers. We would love their help! This is an exciting opportunity for us to work together to support those affected by Lou Gehrig's Disease and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure.

How much can you help Drafters reach our Ride to Defeat ALS fundraising goal?

Thank you,

Jan Steinbock
