Carla Louise "Lulu" Stanhope Tallant touched the lives of everyone she knew with her dynamic personality. Everyone who knew Carla knew that she was a loving, caring mother who brought her passionate and nurturing qualities into her classroom. Carla was a strong, independent woman who knew she could be heard as well as seen. And Carla was a very compassionate woman who gave to others on so many levels. Those who were close to Carla know that in the last year, her passionate spirit began to be compromised by a decline in her physical abilities. Carla, her family, and her doctors struggled to understand why she was having difficulty swallowing and were puzzled by her decline in physical strength and stamina. Carla and her family knew virtually nothing about ALS, and the multitude of doctors were either unfamiliar with her atypical presentation of symptoms, or were afraid to give such a devastating diagnosis. Carla learned for certain that she had ALS less than two weeks before she passed away from respiratory failure. Carla and her family greatly appreciate your donation to "Lulu's Fund," in hopes that others have better diagnostics, treatments or a cure for this cruel disease.
