IN MEMORY OF PATRICIA DOMINECK SLAUGHTER
(Presented by her loving family)
Patricia Domineck Slaughter's mission was to touch the life and expand the mind of anyone who crossed her path. She was a wonderful, caring, loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, friend, co-worker and educator to many.
PATRICIA'S JOURNEY
When Patricia began experiencing various symptoms, she sought medical attention which lead to numerous doctor visits and multiple tests. One day, many months later, a final diagnosis was made.....she had ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
After her diagnosis, Patricia continued forward with her usual drive and uplifting spirit; wearing the smile she had worn her whole life, a characteristic she was well known for. She was a strong, determined, courageous, dignified woman. Even when the days got tough, Patricia's smile remained. Her battle with ALS ended the night of October 4, 2019, the night that changed our lives forever.
WHAT IS ALS?
ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement. ALS challenges the human spirit when it takes away the ability to speak, swallow, eat, walk, grasp objects, move and breathe. Every 90 minutes someone is diagnosed with and someone passes away from this devastating disease. Learn more about ALS at: www.alsa.org/about-als/what-is-als.html.
THE ALS ASSOCIATION (ALSA)
The ALSA empowers people with ALS and their families to live fuller lives. While aggressively searching for new treatments and a cure, the ALSA builds hope and enhances quality of life by providing compassionate care and support, which was of great assistance to Patricia.
COMMUNITY OF HOPE
The ALSA has a Community of Hope which is an online network of "tribute funds." In Patricia's honor and as an extension of her legacy, we have created the Patricia Domineck-Slaughter Memorial Fund. Patricia suggested that contributions be made to the ALS Association's Rocky Mountain Chapter to help with the fight against ALS.
DONATE TODAY
Because there is no known cause or cure for ALS, there is an urgency for more research and financial support. A donation of any amount is one of the most meaningful gifts you can give and will put Patricia's wish into action. Your donation today will help provide much needed services which can be very expensive and hard to obtain. The estimated out-of-pocket cost for the care of a person with ALS is over $250,000.
Credit Card
Donations can be made online by credit card by clicking on the DONATE NOW box, above right.
