ALS impacts the entire family. Following Steve’s diagnosis, the level of daily care, technological assistance, medical equipment, and household modifications were incredibly daunting. Beyond Steve’s physical symptoms, this disease affected our entire family. Thankfully, we connected right away with our local ALS chapter for support.
What’s so remarkable about the ALS association is they provide support groups, assistance navigating medical providers, they train patients on speech-assisted technologies, and social workers will visit families without any charge to the patient or their family. In addition, they have an entire warehouse of medical equipment, offered to any patient who needs it. That level of support, free of charge, is only possible through donations.
Simply put, the ALS association was absolutely vital in ensuring Steve and our family were well cared for during this difficult time. Their presence ensured Steve had every need taken care of, protecting our family time so that we could focus on each other.
On behalf of Steve and whole Symonds family, we request your contribution to this spectacular organization. There are many important organizations working to find a cure for ALS through research, but in the mean time families need ‘the boots on the ground’ support. The ALS association represents the very best in terms of care and support on the front lines of the battle against ALS. Their community gives strength to our loved ones and friends facing the ravages of ALS.
Thank you.
