In Memory of Karen Rehling
Established by Randy Rehling
Minnesota/North Dakota/South Dakota

Karen Elaine (Bresser) Rehling, age 65, went to be with Jesus on Friday, November 24, 2023, at Dougherty Hospice House after a long battle with ALS. She was an ALS Warrior for six years and seven days. She was born January 30, 1958, to Waldemor “Bud” and Ferne (Anderson) Bresser.

Karen's life story is one of impressive achievements and unwavering dedication to service. As the valedictorian of Madison High School's class of 1976, she set the bar high for herself early on. Her commitment to excellence was evident throughout her 38-year career at Sanford Hospital, where she earned the distinction of Business Employee of the Year in 1993. Despite her numerous accomplishments - including receiving the Betty Crocker Family Leader of Tomorrow award in 1976, earning an associate degree from Dakota State College in 1978 and being an Epic trainer for the Sanford Health System, - Karen remained humble and unassuming. As a founding member of King of Glory Church in Sioux Falls, Karen's selflessness and generosity were felt throughout her community. She was a dedicated volunteer for several organizations, including Hope Lutheran Church, Center of Hope Worship Hour, and King of Glory. In recent years, Karen became an advocate for the ALS Association, mentoring patients through I AM ALS and raising significant funds for the cause. Karen's passion for life extended far beyond her career and volunteer work. She loved to travel and explore the outdoors, citing her trip to Colorado as a favorite memory. Her family was always at the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Karen's legacy is one of quiet strength, kindness, love for Jesus, and unwavering dedication. She will be missed by all who knew her, but her impact will continue to be felt for years to come.

Grateful to have shared her life are her husband of 43 years, Randy Rehling; daughter, Allison (Nate) Gronseth; grandchildren, Harrison and Adalyn Gronseth; beloved brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Joel (Mary Anne) Bresser.

Visitation is Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 5-7 PM at Miller Southside Chapel, 7400 S. Minnesota Ave., Sioux Falls, SD. Memorial service is Friday, December 1, 2023, at 11 AM at King of Glory Church, 1001 E. 17th St, Sioux Falls, SD. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the ALS Associated local chapter.

With no known cause or cure, ALS challenges the human spirit and tests the courage of everyone touched by this devastating disease.
