This memorial fund is in memory of Tomas N. Jimenez Jr. He was diagnosed with ALS in 2017 after a few years of trying to figure out why his neck and shoulder were getting weak. During this time, our family was connected to the ALS clinic at Northwestern and St. Louis ALS Chapter as they lived in Springfield, IL at the time. Our parents decided to move closer to family 2019 and connected with UCSD ALS clinic and Greater San Deigo ALS Chapter. They have given us immense support through caregiver meetings, accessible social outings with fellow PALS, any equipment we were in need of, and referrering resources if we had any questions. ALS had taken away our dad's ability to walk, eat by mouth, breathe independently, and eventually talk. Yet through all of this, he stayed positive and mentally strong trying to be as independent as possible and that there will be a cure during his lifetime. Unfortunately, there has not been yet, but there is continued research toward this.

We need to let people with ALS know they are not alone. ALS affects more than nerve cells and muscles, it affects families, friends, co-workers, and communities. 

With no known cause or cure, ALS challenges the human spirit and tests the courage of everyone touched by this devastating disease.

However, we can work together to create a Community of Hope that restores dreams and builds courage.  Our community gives strength and hope to our loved ones, neighbors, and friends facing the fear and uncertainty of ALS.
