    SHEPHERD, Barbara Mohler
    March 14, 1946 - February 9, 2019

Barbara Mohler Shepherd, 72, of Austin, Texas, went to be with her Lord on February 9, 2019, at home surrounded by her loving family, from ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).

Barbara was the first born child of William E. and Mary Ann Morrison Mohler of Charleston, WV who predeceased her. She is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 50 years, William Gray Shepherd. Together, they raised three sons, William Trent Shepherd (Carly); Todd Mohler Shepherd; and Mark Edward Shepherd (Lauren). She was blessed with four grandchildren: Gray, Ty, Violet, and Evan. Barbara is survived by her siblings Julia Stocks (Don); Ann Maddox (Mike); Bill Mohler (Dina); and David Mohler (Sherry) as well as her sister and brother-in-law Becky and Rudy Hopkins. Barbara is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews who love her dearly.

Barbara graduated from Charleston High School in 1964 and Denison University in 1968, attaining a degree in sociology. She enjoyed a variety of occupations including being a stewardess for Pan Am when glamor was key; serving as a travel agent; working as an executive assistant for Charles Moore Architects; and then sharing her passion interacting with youth and as executive assistant to various pastors for the Riverbend Church Community for over 20 years. She was a faithful member of the Links Sunday School Class.

Barbara lived every minute of her life to the fullest, cherishing her time with family and friends. She lived her life in faith and love, never missing an opportunity to have a great adventure. Her West Virginia roots ran deep and her love of rivers was lifelong, from the Elk River in West Virginia to the Llano in Texas.

Barbara was asked: What is your idea of perfect happiness? Her response was: 'I reflected on this more than normal, even in the middle of the night, and it all can be pretty well be summarized by love of family. The concept has played itself over and over in my life in different gradations: as a child with parents who loved me, as having three sons who I truly love more than I might have imagined (and have had that love reciprocated) and then with grandchildren.'

The Celebration of Barbara's life will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at 1:30 pm at Riverbend Church in Fellowship Hall with Dr. Dave Haney officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to ALS Association Texas Chapter, 1315 Sam Bass Circle, B5, Round Rock, TX 78681 or alstexas.org/donate or to Riverbend Church Middle School and High School Programs, 4214 North Capital of Texas Highway, Austin, TX 78746.
