Life Is Not Fair But Wayne Never Complained

Life is not fair. We have all had this thought at some point in our lives. I thought it when Wayne was diagnosed with ALS at the young age of 45. I must admit there were other times during our ALS journey that I felt life was not fair, but Wayne never complained. In 2021 Wayne and I became grandparents to a beautiful little girl who has Wayne's eyes. This year we will be blesssed with a second grandchild. Wayne would have loved every moment of this new adventure with a twinkle in his eye and a mischievous smile. Those who knew Wayne know that he would have been a very fun grandfather. He would try to balance the grand baby on his hand well before the baby could stand giving us all a heart attack (just like he did with Jessica and Brittany). We wish he was here to be the funny, playful granddad that he would have been. Life is not fair, but Wayne never complained.
Wayne taught us many lessons in how he lived with ALS. He taught us to take the hand you are dealt and make the most of it; to handle a devastating diagnosis with grace; to make the most of the time he had with family and friends; to focus on what he could do to help find a cure to help other people with ALS. Life is not fair, but Wayne never complained.
It is hard to believe that it has been almost 7 years without Wayne. He lived 10 years 9 months and 6 days with ALS! He definitely put up an amazing fight and lived with ALS on his terms. He was an amazing husband, father, son, uncle, friend, and mentor. We miss him every day. Even though he is gone, we are continuing his fight. With that in mind we continue to raise money to help others with ALS and to lead to further medical breakthroughs and hopefully a cure.
Thank you for all the love and support you have given our family over the years. This journey would have been impossible without you.
