My walk on Saturday, October 14th, 2023 is dedicated to my father-in-law, Satish D. Patel (1945-2022) – a true hero and an ALS warrior.
A little over a year has passed since we watched our him endure his battle with ALS, but we have not forgotten his determination and valiant effort, or the hardship inflicted on our family. This cruel disease - commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease - has no known cause or cure, is typically fatal in 2-5 years, and occurs worldwide with no ethnic, racial or socioeconomic boundaries. It destroys the motor neurons in the brain, causing methodical paralysis of the entire body, leaving its victim unable to walk, speak, eat, and ultimately, unable to breathe. Through all of this, the victims’ minds are, almost cruelly, left unaffected. We must do something.
Please join us in this fight against ALS by joining our team, Do The Right Thing, and walking with us and/or making a contribution in support of us and the legacy of my late father-in-law. His life philosophy came down to one phrase that we heard so often – do the right thing. A simple mantra that he embodied each and every day. As such, my team will honor this and challenge ourselves to do the right thing by him, just as he would do for others, and undoubtedly for those fighting this cruel disease and the loved ones by their side. With your involvement, we can help make a difference in the lives of all ALS patients and their families.
