Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.
Primary Lateral Sclersois, again, no know cause or cure, is the same except you live with it much longer as the progression is slower. Some people progress faster and some slower. I was diagnosed in 2010 after three years of my neurologist monitoring me. In many ways PLS puts more of a burden on me and my wife who takes care of me. My support group plays a big role in my life also. It is hosted by the ALSA. They cover a lot of states and even though we moved to Boise, the same association does great work here also. I have walked nine years
That’s why I’m walking. To change the statistics. To bring help and hope to those living with the disease. To ensure that no one ever hears the words: “You Have ALS or PLS” again. My hope is if a cure is found for ALS it will be available to PLS people also. PLS is much more rare with only about 2000 in the USA, maybe more. I was diagnosed in 2010 after three years of being monitored and thirteen years since symptoms.
Thank you in advance for the donation, if you are able.
