As many of you know my grandma who we call Nene (knee-knee) was diagnosed with ALS 2 years ago. Nene is the most loving, caring, thoughtful person I know. She is my #1 supporter, right or wrong. She is strong willed and will accomplish anything she puts her mind to! She is the boss and glue of this family. I love watching her and Ramon together, knowing he is getting all the love and attention I was blessed with growing up.

It breaks my heart and makes me so angry that there is no known cause or cure for ALS! I am pissed that this disease has affected my Nene, my family, and many other families. That’s why I joined the Walk to Defeat ALS. Please consider donating or walking to bring awareness. Donations go to research and support towards finding the cause and cure! There will also be a Walk to Defeat ALS at Howard Amen Park on October 28th.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.

That’s why I’m walking. To change the statistics. To bring help and hope to those living with the disease. To ensure that no one ever hears the words: “You Have ALS” again. 

The past two years have brought incredible advancements in ALS research, expanded access to care for people living with ALS, and enabled legislation that impacts the quality of life of people with ALS and their families.

But, we can’t stop now. The key to a cure begins with you.
