Family & Friends,
I walk in memory of my sweet mama, Mary Deloris McClain who lost her battle with ALS on August 31, 2013. As always, she never gave up and always had a smile for all of her family and friends who came by to visit. On August 6, 2013, her and my dad celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary. She wanted a big cookout and so many people came to see her that day, she let us know by writing us a note that she had the best day and was happy to see everyone. We never imagined that only a few short weeks later, we would be saying goodbye, but I think back and she knew that ALS would soon take her, way to soon.
Mom was very talented and had a green thumb and could grow anything (that's something that I didn't inherit from her, but I wish I had), you could tell this by her beautiful gardens full of blooms. She also made beautiful flower arrangements and made so many people smile. She worked at many local flower shops, nurseries, but many memories were made out of our garage with her very own flower shop, "Flowers by Mary Dee", a fitting a perfect team name in memory of her. This will be our eight walk and I know she will be smiling down on us on March 30, 2019 as we walk to defeat ALS. Many thanks for all of my family and friends that have been there for us during the last seven walks, we will continue to walk in honor of my mom, "Team Mary Dee".
Please consider walking with me or sponsoring me. With your help, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease. I encourage you get your friends, family, neighbors and coworkers involved!
Why We Need Your Help
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease though support is bringing researchers closer to an answer. In the mean time it costs an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. Help make a difference and donate or join a walk today.
