Help me raise money to find a cure for ALS!
Welcome to My Fundraising Page
Event: | Silicon Valley Walk |
Date: | Saturday, October 8, 2022 |
Team: | Maverick |
Welcome to my fundraising page! My name is Jessica and I am Team Maverick's team captain. We started waking to defeat ALS when my dad, Doug McNeil, was diagnosed with the disease in the summer of 2017. I was heartbroken and searching for any possible way to channel the pain into something positive. Getting to know the ALS Association has brought us community and resources we greatly needed and are beyond thankful for the connections we have made.
This is an exciting opportunity for us to work together to support those affected by ALS and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure.
The past few years have brought incredible advancements in ALS research, expanded access to care for people living with ALS, and enabled legislation that impacts the quality of life of people with ALS and their families. WE CAN'T STOP NOW!
Please consider walking with me or sponsoring me. With your help, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease.
Why We Need Your Help
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
ALS can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease, though support is bringing researchers closer to an answer. In the meantime it costs an average of $250,000 a year to provide the care people living with ALS and their families need. Join the movement to bring help and hope today!
About Team Maverick
Team Maverick is a collective group of Doug McNeil and his family & friends. Doug was diagnosed with ALS in the summer of 2017, after over a year of previously unexplained motor symptoms. Facing a terminal illness is life-shattering, especially when little is known about your disease. The McNeil family has always valued community, and this community keeps them going on the good and bad days. Why Maverick? Well, the answer is two part. 1) Doug's middle name is Bret, after "Bret Maverick", and 2) because synonyms for the word include "rebel", "nonconformist", and "free spirit". Doug has never been one to let life get him down, and his battle with ALS has not changed that. He holds onto his can-do, make it work attitude. We gather together to rebel against ALS and fight hard for research and a cure!
Join the movement to provide help and hope today!
Much love,
Jessica
