Thank you for helping me reach my Walk to Defeat ALS® fundraising goal! I am working and walking in loving memory of our friend, Jim Riding, and in honor of his family....along with too many others I now know whom we have lost or who are currently living with this awful disease.
The picture above is from over 10 years ago, and so much progress has been made since then, but effective treatments and cures must still be pursued. Genes have been discovered, access to care has been expanded, and government funding for research and care has increased significantly. STICK WITH US ON THIS ROAD -- WE CAN'T STOP NOW!!
The Walk to Defeat ALS is an exciting opportunity for us to work together to support all of those affected by Lou Gehrig's Disease and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and cures.
Please consider walking with me for the November 6 Golden West Chapter Walk to Defeat ALS, or donating here to my personal page. With your help, we will be able to make a difference in many lives -- those who have been diagnosed today, and those who will be diagnosed in the future.
Why We Need Your Help
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, write, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
EVERYONE IS AT RISK. Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
Presently there is no known cause of the disease though support is bringing researchers closer to an answer. In the mean time it costs an average of over $250,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. You can provide help and hope with me by donating to and/or joining my team.
