Scott, my brother-in-law was diagnosed with ALS in November of 2021. Prior to him finally getting word of the disease, he struggled for over 2 years trying to get answers on why he had trouble walking, sleeping, and losing mobility. This disease affected his ability to work before we even knew what the true diagnosis was. Our family has watched this fight Scott and Amy have battled, just trying to get answers to questions and adjusting their lifestyle to keep Scott safe and still be part of the family events and activities.
As Scott has now received many answers, he has become involved in ALS Des Moines and wants to continue learning and be involved in fighting this disease. Our family wants to do whatever we can to support ALS Des Moines so they can continue to help with the needs of those who are in need of the great support we have seen with Scott, so he can continue being the husband, brother, and uncle to those that love him so much. Let's Defeat ALS!
Thank you for helping me reach my Walk to Defeat ALS fundraising goal! The Walk to Defeat ALS raises funds to support those affected by ALS and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.
That’s why I’m walking. To change the statistics. To bring help and hope to those living with the disease. To ensure that no one ever hears the words: “You Have ALS” again.
But, we can’t stop now. The key to a cure begins with you.
Please consider walking with me or sponsoring Scott. With your help, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease.
Thank you,
Sue
