Thank you for helping me to raise money in the Walk to Defeat ALS®.
My husband Mike was diagnosed with ALS on June 14, 2015. He passed away on June 27, 2016. ALS hits quickly and affects every aspect of life for both the patient and their family.
This is why every year, I am the team captain for Mike’s Posse in the Walk to Defeat ALS®. We walk to help to raise awareness and help fund research, facilities and support services for patients and their families living with ALS. We walk so families can have more birthday celebrations, more holidays and more time spent together making memories. We walk to stop the heartache families face when they lose a loved one to this terrible disease. Mike’s hope was that one day a cure would be found for ALS so no one else would have to endure the pain of living with ALS.
I walk ‘A Mile for Mike’ ! Please consider sponsoring me or walking with me by joining Mike's Posse. With your help, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease.
There have been incredible advancements in ALS research, expanded access to care for ALS patients, and enabled legislation that impacts the quality of life of patients and their families. WE CAN'T STOP NOW!
Why We Need Your Help
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease though support is bringing researchers closer to an answer. In the mean time it costs an average of $250,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. Help make a difference and donate or join a walk today.
