Join Me in the ALS Walk: A Tribute to Alison
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. It leads to the loss of muscle control, making it increasingly difficult to speak, eat, move, and breathe. Bulbar ALS specifically impacts the muscles responsible for speech, swallowing, and breathing. The Walk to Defeat ALS raises funds to support those affected by ALS and spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure.
I am walking in honor of my godmother, Alison, who suffered horribly from ALS until it took her life just days after her 60th birthday. Alison had bulbar ALS, a particularly cruel form of this disease that made her a prisoner in her own body. She did not deserve to die in that way, and no one else does either.
Why Walk?
- Raise Awareness: By participating in the ALS walk, we shine a light on this devastating disease and its impact on those affected and their families.
- Fund Research: The funds raised from the walk go directly to research efforts aimed at finding a cure and improving treatments for ALS.
- Support the Community: The ALS walk brings together individuals who have been touched by this disease, offering a supportive community for those currently battling ALS and their loved ones.
- Honor Loved Ones: Walking in memory of Alison and others who have lost their battle with ALS is a powerful way to honor their courage and strength.
- Make a Difference: Every step we take brings us closer to a world without ALS. Your participation helps create hope for a future where no one has to endure the suffering caused by this relentless disease.
Please join me in this important cause. Together, we can make a difference and work towards a cure for ALS. United, we can change the statistics and bring help and hope to those living with the disease. We can ensure that no one ever hears the words: “You have ALS” again.
The past two years have brought incredible advancements in ALS research, expanded access to care for people living with ALS, and enabled legislation that impacts the quality of life of people with ALS and their families.
But we can’t stop now. The key to a cure begins with you.
Please consider walking with me or sponsoring me. With your help, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease.
Thank you.
