Thank you for helping me reach my Walk to Defeat ALS fundraising goal! The Walk to Defeat ALS raises funds to support those affected by ALS and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure.
As all of you know I have worked for The ALS association for almost 15 years now (picture above with my mom and sister from one of my early walk days in Lincoln). I was honored and blessed to work with many NE families living with ALS for 12 years. In these 15 years we have seen tremendous breakthroughs in science and technology. I recently attended our ALS Nexus conference and was blown away by the advancement in genetic therapy and treatments as well as advances in technology that increase quality of life, moving toward our goal of making ALS livable until there is a cure. ALS always seems to affect the best of the best and I have learned so much from every family that I have worked with over the year--lessons of strength, resilience, humor, compassion and love. For that reason, we continue to raise funds to advance the cause and find more treatments for ALS until there is a cure.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.
Please consider joining me or making a donation. With your help, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease.
