Hi again,

Kathy and I are back walking this year for our 8th year, but this year as part of the Boston walk being held at UMass-Boston, on October 20th.

We continue to do this labor of love to help raise funds to find a cure for ALS. This terrible disease has hit home for many of us as it took Newburyport High School friends Rob Daigle and Brent Paulhus and my friend from Bridgewater State's Julie Hubbard's husband Mike Dennehy who passed away this past May. We will never stop fighting until a cure is found.

For those who are not familiar with ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow, and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. Rob battled this disease for only 18 months, while Brent fought the disease for over 11 years. Mike is still struggling through this disease for the past 4 years. ALS can strike anyone, and presently, there is no known cause or cure.

The key to a cure begins with you. Last year, we had our best year so far, topping the $3000 mark ($3031.00). We understand that times are difficult and that there are many similar requests asking for help, but this year we are again going celebrate your generosity. In honor of the 10th anniversary of the Ice Bucket Challenge, Kathy will again dump ice and water on me for anyone who donates $100 or more and we will post it on social media. The bigger the donation, the bigger the bucket.
