As many of you know, my best friend, Kristy Judy, was diagnosed with ALS earlier this year.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.

Kristy has been my best friend since I was 16 years old. We went to high school and college together, were maid/matron of honor in each other's weddings, are godmothers to each other's children and are each other's first to call with good or bad news. It is devastating to watch someone you love progressively get worse and know that the science is not there yet to stop or even significantly slow the progression.

Kristy needs to use all of her energy to fight ALS. I promised her that I would help spread awareness and raise money for ALS research on her behalf. So thank you in advance for helping me reach my Walk to Defeat ALS fundraising goal. The Walk to Defeat ALS raises funds to support those affected by ALS and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure.
