Every day we get closer, but every day, we loose someones loved one to this horrible disease.
Please consider walking with me or sponsoring me. With your help, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease. I encourage you get your friends, family, neighbors and coworkers involved!
Why We Need Your Help
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Our story began in the fall of 2010, when Glenn noticed muscle twitching in his right upper arm and also noticed that his right hand was smaller than his left. And so the journey began....
Glenn was diagnosed with ALS in November of 2010. He was given 1-2 years. He passed away in February of 2013. His battle was 2 years and 3 months. Glenn was bound and determined that he was going to beat the odds and live past 2 years, And he did! But everyday was a battle. A battle to breath, talk, eat, move, and be himself.
Glenn taught us so many things while he battled ALS. He taught us courage to go on and face the unknown. He taught us to laugh in the face of adversity , be humble, and to be brave. Glenn was always planning ahead, wanting to make sure that we were taken care of. He was always more concerned for others than himself. Glenn always said I was lucky to have him. But really, we were the lucky ones!
ALS robbed our family of a father, husband, son, brother, and now grand father. Lets not let it rob any other family. When we ask Karlee, Glenn's first grand child, where Papa, she points to his picutre on the wall. Not fair! Help us defeat this horrible disease!
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease though support is bringing researchers closer to an answer. In the mean time it costs an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. Help make a difference and donate or join a walk today. Please take the time to donate. One day we will find a cure and you can be a part of it!
Thank you!
