I Walk for Tim and Others Fighting ALS
Event: | Twin Cities Walk |
Date: | Saturday, September 7, 2024 |
Team: | RUN TMC |
My brother, Tim, lost his 2.5 year battle with ALS on August 8, 2017 but we can still continue to fight this debilitating disease for those affected by ALS. Please consider joining our team and/or sponsoring our RUNTMC group this year! I've joined the Walk to Defeat ALS® to raise awareness, show people living with ALS that we support them, and raise money for research and support services until we find a cure. With your help, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease. ALS is a journey no one should make alone, and when you walk and donate, you make a difference for people impacted by ALS. I encourage you get your friends, family, neighbors and coworkers involved. The key to a cure and the ability to support others with ALS begins with you!
The money we raise funds vital programs for ALS families including:
Help us do whatever it takes to unlock ALS! Can I count on you to join me in helping families with ALS by making a secure, tax-deductible, online donation to the RUNTMC team? This year's Walk to Defeat ALS events are scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, September 7 at 9:00am at the Mall of America. The Walk is 1 mile per lap.
Why We Need Your Help
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS usually strikes people between the ages of 40 and 70, but it can strike anyone at any time.
Every 90 minutes another person hears the words "you have ALS" for the first time and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
As we experienced, this crippling disease can strike anyone at any time. Presently there is no known cause of the disease though support is bringing researchers closer to an answer. In the mean time it costs an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. Help make a difference and donate today or join us in spirit on the Walk Your Way on Saturday, September 7th.
Your past support has helped dramatically accelerate the fight against
ALS, resulting in new ALS treatments, new ALS genes being discovered, and global research collaborations. The funds we raise through the Walk to Defeat ALS will continue to push us closer to creating a world without ALS. YOU can be the key to unlock ALS.
