Mark's daughter, Rachael, inspired me to make this page more personal - thank you, Rachael!
Mark is a man that inspires me every day and has since the day I met him. He is unquestioningly brave in all things, from raising his daughter to walking the Colorado Trail to living with ALS. Since I met him five years ago, he has been a joy and mentor to me and so many others. A mentor in how to just be kind. To just accept. To be brave. He never judges.
He is thoroughly thoughtful and open to ideas and experiences. And kind. Did I mention kind?
This is a man of activity. He ran (set school records), he swam, he took biking road-trips and biked everywhere in town for years, he hiked everywhere he went on trips, he canoed in the Boundary Waters many years, he cross-country skied, snow-shoed, helped his sister and brother-in-law build a log cabin in the Middle-of-Nowhere, Saskatchewan. We are walking for the adventure in him and all of us.
The great joy of his life is being a father. We live in gratitude every day for finding the loves-of-our-lives in each other (it took us decades - we were just waiting for each other). He loves his family more than anything. Truly.
Thank you for helping us reach our Walk to Defeat ALS fundraising goal! The Walk to Defeat ALS raises funds to support those affected by ALS and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.
Mark and I are SO grateful for the support that we have received from this organization. That's another reason why we are walking. To bring help and hope to those living with the disease.
The past two years have brought incredible advancements in ALS research, expanded access to care for people living with ALS, and enabled legislation that impacts the quality of life of people with ALS and their families.
But, we can’t stop now. The key to a cure begins with you.
Please consider walking with us or sponsoring us. With your help, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease.
