Thank you for helping me reach my Walk to Defeat ALS fundraising goal! The Walk to Defeat ALS raises funds to support those affected by ALS and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure. 

The diagnosis is devastating, scary, and sad for those living with it and their loved ones. Additionally, it requires costly medication, equipment, and often accessibility modifications to the person’s home. The ALS Association helps families with these costs, whether it’s providing funding for medications, which can cost up to $17,000 per month; providing assessments of required modifications to homes for wheelchair accessibility; or delivering and loaning equipment. They also have support groups for people living with ALS, their caregivers, and their adult children. And finally, they help fund and advocate for legislative funding for research of ALS so that this awful disease can be eradicated.
