Dear Friends,
Nico and I are participating in the Twin Cities Walk to Defeat ALS on September 7, 2024 in honor of my wife and Nico's mom Carmen De La Hoz who passed away on April 28, 2016. Team Carmen is in its ninth year. Since you have received this, you have been involved in some way in the past with supporting the ALS Association.
Participating in the Walk to Defeat ALS is one of the many ways that Nico and I remember Carmen. If you would like to remember Carmen in this way, feel free to join us by signing on to this Team Carmen site or contributing directly to the ALS association of Minnesota & North Dakota. You can also contribute later in the year if you prefer--the site stays open through December.
One of Carmen's abiding passions during her illness was to help others who suffer from this terrible disease and to help research that will lead to a cure. Over the past years, the ALS Association has expanded its services, support groups, technology outreach, loan closet and respite care to rural communities with fewer resources and less access to services. Nationally their funding for research has increased, thanks to the momentum from the original ice bucket challenge. Little by little, steady progress is being made.
Nico and I will be doing the Walk at the Mall of America in Bloomington on September 7 at 8:30 am. Let me know if you'd like to meet up. But you can also sign up as a virtual walker if you'd like. It seems like yesterday, but also a long time, since Carmen was with us, but she's still in our hearts, I know.
Thank you!
Terry and Nico
